I challenge you to actually leave the present. Where would you go? Where is this other place than now? Despite all your efforts, you have been a glorious failure at leaving the present, so you might as well surrender and pay attention to it. It’s not like you have a choice: “No thanks, I think I’ll live in the past instead.” If you find a way, send us a postcard!
Nothing Personal- Nirmala
the past is long gone
from here
there is no way back
how could there be
the present is over too quickly
for feeble desires
to have any effect
except to hide peace
the future races ahead
forever out of reach
of dreamy wishes
and useless plans
and yet when I rest
in the endless now
every need is satisfied
in ways never imagined~Nirmala, from ‘Gifts With No Giver’

Truth is too simple for words;
before thought gets tangled up in nouns and
verbs,
there is a wordless sound
a deep breathless sigh
of overwhelming relief
to find the end of fiction
in this ordinary
yet extraordinary moment
when words are recognized
as words,
and truth is recognized
as everything else.
The heart of meditative awareness is expressed well in this symbol of a Silent Watcher, who simply attends very fully to what comes and what goes, with a kind, non-intrusive interest.
She does not seek to influence what she sees, but wants very simply and respectfully to know it, as fully as…
I focus attention on the feeling inside me. I recognize it as pain. I accept that it is there. I don’t think about it, I don’t let the feeling turn into thinking. I don’t judge or analyze. I don’t make an identity for myself of it. I stay present, and continue to be the observer of what is happening inside me. I become aware not only of the emotional pain but also of “the one who observes,” the silent watcher.
1. Listen to your body. It runs on balance. It knows how much and what it needs to survive. This is something you do not need to think about.. your body ‘silently knows’ without your ego/minds interference. If you are eating out, when your body tells you you are full. stop. You CAN take the rest of the food home so you don’t waste it.
2. Be grateful. For just being here, having this body, this human experience and being conscious. Then, out of that gratefulness which becomes love, what happens? you love every inch of yourself enough to treat it ‘right’.
3. be mindful when eating not mindFULL. Eat with gratitude towards every bit of life that has gone into bringing this food into your presence. In this way we allow ourselves to really taste the flavours and the textures. Also smell your food, before it touches your lips. Really be present with eating or drinking. Feel it down your throat and slide through your body. How does it feel?
4. Eat to live, not the other way around.

Remember always that you are just a visitor here, a traveler passing through. Your stay is but short and the moment of your departure unknown.
None can live without toil and a craft that provides your needs is a blessing indeed. But if you toil without rest, fatigue and weariness will overtake you, and you will denied the joy that comes from labour’s end.
Speak quietly and kindly and be not forward with either opinions or advice. If you talk much, this will make you deaf to what others say, and you should know that there are few so wise that they cannot learn from others.
Be near when help is needed, but far when praise and thanks are being offered.
Take small account of might, wealth and fame, for they soon pass and are forgotten. Instead, nurture love within you and and strive to be a friend to all. Truly, compassion is a balm for many wounds.
Treasure silence when you find it, and while being mindful of your duties, set time aside, to be alone with yourself.
Cast off pretense and self-deception and see yourself as you really are.
Despite all appearances, no one is really evil. They are led astray by ignorance. If you ponder this truth always you will offer more light, rather then blame and condemnation.
You, no less than all beings have Buddha Nature within. Your essential Mind is pure. Therefore, when defilements cause you to stumble and fall, let not remorse nor dark foreboding cast you down. Be of good cheer and with this understanding, summon strength and walk on.
Faith is like a lamp and wisdom makes the flame burn bright. Carry this lamp always and in good time the darkness will yield and you will abide in the Light.Dhammavadaka.

The irony in the search for my place in the fight for black freedom was finding myself and finding myself free of my blackness. How then do I fight for something I never was but only told I am? And by whom? What fool peers squinting into the mirror of the world awaiting definition anyway?
I now…
“Real compassion kicks butt and takes names,
and it is not pleasant on certain days.
If you are not ready for this fire,
then find a new-age, sweetness-and-light,
soft-speaking, perpetually smiling teacher,
and learn to relabel your ego with spiritual sounding terms.
But stay away from those that practice real compassion,
because they will fry your ass, my friend.”
-Ken Wilber
